Despite President Akufo-Addo’s commitment to providing incentive packages for frontline health workers which he extended the 50% additional allowance to the next three months, some health workers are not impressed with the extension.
They say the previous packages except for the income tax incentive, none of them have received the 50% bonus from the government, therefore, they will be happy if the government can tell them who exactly qualifies for the package.
They justified their claims that the reason they are still working was instigated bu passion to serve the country and not for monetary gains hence, the President should go by his promises.
Upper East Regional Chairman of the Physician Assistants Association of Ghana, Peter Ayamba in an interview on A1 Radio,the definition of a frontline health worker was still in contention because of the ambiguity.
“Yes, for the income tax incentive, we are being exempted from it but the 50% allowance thing no one has received any Covid-19 incentive allowance from the government. I can’t even tell whether I’m being classified as a frontline staff or not.”He said.
He added that even those who are working as contact tracers in the region were struggling to get hold of their monthly allowance.
“Some of these people are even thinking of stopping the work because you can imagine the risks they go through yet when it comes to cushioning them it becomes a different matter.” He claimed.
He, therefore, called on the President to reconsider clarifying beneficiaries of the package to clear the ambiguity.
