National Democratic Congress(NDC) Member of Parliament for Builsa North Constituency, James Agalga has accused the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the area James Abakisi of using COVID-19 funds to drill boreholes for campaign at the expense of sensitizing constituents to avert the spray of the virus in the constituency.

According to Mr. Agalga, his opponent, James Abakisi has conspired with the  Builsa North Assembly to execute projects using the COVID-19 funds .

Speaking on A1 Radio’s Day Break Upper East, Mr. Agaliga, said the situation has led many community members in the constituency to wander in darkness about the safety protocols of the virus.

“Nothing is happing in the constituency in terms of educating the residents on the health implications of COVID-19. What we only know is that, my opponent from the governing Party is using COVID-19 funds to market himself by drilling boreholes.

He is using resources meant for COVID-19 sensitization to drill boreholes to achieve his political ambition to the neglect of the residents. This is wrong, and I have pictorial evidence to that effect. I’m not only talking about my constituency alone but if you look around that is what is happening on the ground.”

But James Abakisi debunked the claims made by James Agalga and wandered how a parliamentary candidate could divert assembly’s funds to drill boreholes.

“I know that the COVID-19 funds were transferred to the district assemblies for the purposes of that, but how can that funds be diverted to my accounts. We know of MP’s common funds and not PC common funds so what my brother is saying is nothing to ride home about. In fact, at the assembly level, I have no power to disburse funds.

So what is he talking about?. I guess, he may be referring to the boreholes that were constructed by the Northern Development Authority and even so, those boreholes have not been commissioned because they are still under construction.  I only visited there to check on the level of work done and not to commission them.

Mr. Abakisi, however, advised his opponent Mr. Agalga to always deal with facts and stop the hearsay propaganda.
