The affected farmers lamented what they say has become a yearly occurrence; where the elephants moved from their habitation in a nearby forest reserve to devour farm produce which were waiting to be harvested.

Briefing A1 News on the massive destruction of the crops, the Nabdam District Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Edward Ndanbon, gave an account of the losses and an estimated damage cost of crops cultivated by the affected farmers.

He said “This elephant invasion to the Nabdam District is a worry matter. The elephants have invaded farmlands; destroyed over 300 acres of farmlands with an estimated cost of over Gh¢80,000.00.”

Though, Mr. Ndanbon alluded to the yearly occurrence of the destructive activities of the elephants, he noted that the devastation caused to the farmlands this year was particularly huge; as compare to the previous years.

Describing the situation as disturbing and a great loss to the district, He called on relevant authorities to come to the aid of farmers in the area and help find a lasting solution to their plight.
