One time Upper East Regional Minister and a former Minister for Defence in the erstwhile Mahama administration, Mark Owen Woyongo has revealed that his defeat in the 2016 Parliamentary Election in the Navrongo Central constituency was based on poor policing of polling stations agents.

According to Mr. Woyongo, the results were rigged at various polling stations by members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in favor of their candidate, Joseph Kofi Adda.

The “undiplomatic attitude” by the NPP Mr. Woyongo said must not be allowed to repeat in this year’s elections.

Encouraging party supporters at the Bolgatanga Central Constituency during a ceremony to officially announce the defection of former PNC Parliamentary Candidate, Thomas Akurugu over the weekend, Mr. Woyongo emphathized that the era of using polling station agents that could not read or write was over.

“3y3 zu, 3y3 Za, we cannot win this year’s elections if we simply rely on people who cannot read or write to station as polling stations agents. Those days are over; that caused my Parliamentary defeat to my opponent (Joseph Kofi Adda). We ought to advance some of the strategies by using teachers, retired appointees as well as ‘men with structures’ as polling station agents. That and only that can help us to win power come December 7 elections”, he said.

He added that “For the party to win this year’s elections both the presidential and majority of the Parliamentary seats, party supports ought to forfeit their time and money and pay vigilantly their attentions on the door to door campaigns.”

Mr. Woyongo further called on the regional executives of the party to bury their difference if any and focus on winning the party to power.

Meanwhile, the 2016 parliamentary candidate of the People’s National Convention (PNC) for Bolgatanga Central Constituency, Thomas Akurugu, has reportedly decamped to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) with over 200 supporters from the PNC.
