Flag bearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has taken a swipe at President Nana Akufo Addo’s “4 more for Nana” mantra.

President Akufo Addo is seeking re-election to the presidency and has been telling Ghanaians to give him and the New Patriotic Party (NPP) four more years to do more for Ghanaians.

But Mr. Mahama has shot down the President’s claim stating that the NPP- led adminstration has done nothing good in the last four years to deserve another term in office.

He said “When you do something, then you can ask for time to do more. But when you have done nothing, how can you ask for time to do more? You’ve done nothing already so what more are you going to do? So if you say 4 more to do more when you have done nothing already, what more do you need again?”

Mr. Mahama stressed that President Akufo Addo’s regime has been characterized by failed promises to the extent that he said the NPP can no longer be trusted.

“We know the hardship we’ve been through and we’re still going through. We were in government when they told us that Ghs14.50 for a gallon of patrol was too expensive; and that it was because of the incompetent NDC administration, that is why life is so hard. Mahama is a wicked man; he has put taxes on petrol. This is what the NPP said in 2016. They said they will take all the taxes off and bring petrol down to Ghs8. Today how much is petrol? Ghs 25.00.” He retorted.

The Former President continued that “In 2016 when I was president, this common gari we all eat; one olonka was Ghs5.00 in Accra; and they said Mahama is wicked. Look how expensive gari, simple man’s food is. When we come there will be plenty food and the price of gari will come down. Today gari in Accra is Ghs20.00.”

Mr Mahama also exposed what he described as insincerity on the part of the ruling government; saying the NPP after criticizing his administration for what they said was his failure to effectively manage the economy relative to the depreciation rate of the Ghanaian Cedi to the Dollar, has now lost control over the situation.

He said “In December 2016, the cedi to the dollar was 3.9 or 4 cedis; and they said we had made the foreign exchange so high; and that when they come they will arrest the dollar. First 100 days in office, they said they’ve arrested the dollar and that they’ve locked the dollar-up in prison and given the key to the IGP. Today where is the dollar? It has broken jail and run away and leaving the cedi far behind. Today the exchange rate is almost 6 cedis to 1dollar.”

Mr. Mahama made these remarks at Binduri on Monday, during his campaign tour of the Upper East Region.
