The Paramount Chief of Sherigu Traditional Area, Naba Aluman Apasinaba II, has appealed to government to consider carving the Sherigu enclave out of the Bolgatanga Central Constituency.
Addressing dignitaries and people of the area during this year’s Naba Yesika festival celebration, the traditional ruler observed that Bolga Central is a large constituency and for that matter, Sherigu and its adjoining communities could stand on its own as Bolgatanga West Constituency.
According to him, the creation of a separate constituency for the people of Sherigu and its enclave will ensure a fair distribution of resources and will also unearth talents of the youth in the area.
“We wish to specially appeal to you for a separate District and/or constituency to be carved out from Bolga central which shall consist of Sherigu and Sunbrungu communities as well as other adjoining communities to be christened Bolga west constituency.
This we believe would help create and afford a unique platform for the people of these communities to have a fair share of development from the National cake. It will also help unearth hidden political talents and ambitions from among the youth who otherwise could not have gotten the opportunity.” He said
Chief of Dorongo, Naba Akazire Afayure, spoke on behalf of the Chief of Sherigu during the Naba Yesika festival celebration.
Recently carved out of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly was the Bolgatanga East District Assembly which was named as one of the 38 newly created and upgraded district assemblies in the country.
The Upper East Region currently has 15 municipal and district assemblies as well as 15 constituencies.
