Flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his party’s resolve to not accept the results of the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections as announced by the Electoral Commission.

Chairperson of the Electoral Commission of Ghana, Jean Mensa, on Wednesday, November 9, officially declared the presidential candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo as president elect of the republic of Ghana.

The announcement was met with wild jubilations from supporters of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

But speaking at a news conference at the NDC headquarters in Accra yesterday, Mr. Mahama flatly rejected the verdict given by the elections management body which declared President Akufo-Addo as winner of the presidential polls.

According to him, facts and figures available to the NDC indicate that the elections had been won by the NDC, but the results were manipulated by the EC to favour the incumbent president.

He is therefore of the view that the sovereign will of the people of Ghana has been undermined.

He said “In respect of the Presidential elections: the facts and figures available to us from pink sheets and other evidence that has unfolded across the country, indicate that numerous steps have been taken to manipulate the results of the election in favour of the incumbent President.”

“This calls into question the credibility of one of our most important institutional pillars of democracy—the Electoral Commission. It is now obvious to many objective minds that the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission has been used to manipulate results from the various constituencies and in that process seek to subvert the sovereign will of the Ghana People.”

“It is for this reason that my colleagues and I in the NDC would not accept what we know to be a fraudulent outcome of this election. We will take legitimate steps to reverse this travesty of justice.”

He concluded by assuring supporters of the umbrella party and all Ghanaians who voted for him that their votes would be protected.
