Uncompleted projects caused our defeat; Tempane DCE explains to clear himself

District Chief Executive (DCE) for Tempane in the Upper East Region, Paul Abugri Azumah says the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) lost the Tempane Parliamentary seat in the 2020 election because of uncompleted infrastructural projects in the area.

Joseph Dindiok Kpemka, Deputy Attorney General and incumbent NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Tempane constituency lost to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Parliamentary Candidate, Lydia Akanvariba Lamisi.

He polled 16,462 votes against 20,939 votes garnered by Madam Lamisi.

Speaking in reaction to a call for his dismissal from office as DCE over his alleged misconduct which was said to have contributed to NPP losing the Tempane seat in the just ended election, Mr. Abugri said “I can tell you on authority that we lost the election because of uncompleted infrastructure and I can name them; roads that were awarded were six major roads, four years ago; and they were all awarded from the top. Only one that was completed; the rest are currently ongoing.”

According to him, the party’s executives in the constituency “went to the {Upper East} Regional NPP Chairman and told him that those roads, if they don’t complete them it will go against us in the election. From Garu to Tempane through that main road know as the ‘Y-Juction’, we kept calling on the contractor, it was left with about 4 weeks to the elections then he came to do something there.”

Another factor that stood against the NPP, according to Mr. Abugri was the party’s failure to connect electricity supply to some communities in the constituency.

Meanwhile, Lawyer Kpemka is on record to have explained in an earlier interview that he did well, particularly in lobbying for development and employment for the youth in the constituency; but lost his seat due to what he described as “well-choreographed propaganda” used against him.
