Supporters of the New Patriotic Party in the Nabdam Constituency of the Upper East Region have condemned calls by a group that has demanded the Upper East Regional Chairman of the party, Anthony Namoo, to resign from his position.
It could be recalled that a group by name ‘Upper East Patriotic Movement for Growth’ shortly after this year’s election, demanded the resignation of Lawyer Anthony Namoo from his position because according to it, he bragged that he would resign as regional chairman if NPP failed to win his home constituency (Nabdam) seat in the December 7 polls; and it turned out the party lost the seat. Hence their call for him to step down.
But according to the NPP supporters in the Nabdam Constituency, it was not true that Lawyer namoo, “during the vetting of the parliamentary aspirants in the constituency stated that he will resign his position as Regional Chairman should the NPP fail to snatch the seat from the NDC.”
Reading a statement issued by the party supporters, the NPP Constituency Chairman for Nabdam, George K. Tenga, said the constituency appreciates the efforts put up by the Regional Chairman and his Executives and has absolute confidence in their ability to the run the affairs of the party in the region; stating that any systematic attempt to reduce the national appeal of lawyer Namoo will not be tolerated by the genuine lovers of the party.
According to him, the Regional Chairman has contributed immensely to the growth of the Party over the years; having served as Party Agent at Polling stations, collation center, and a Research and Elections Officer of the constituency.
“His financial support to the current Constituency Executive Committee is highly commendable.” He added.
Mr. Tenga considered the allegations leveled against the Lawyer Namoo as unfortunate and malicious; thereby calling on the general public to disregard them.
Below is the full statement read by the Constituency Chairman:
My attention has been drawn to a call for the resignation of the Upper East Regional Chairman by a group calling itself the Upper East Patriotic Movement for Growth. I also followed an interview granted by the group’s supposed Secretary Mr. Theophilus Abolga-a sacked Financial Secretary of my Constituency, Nabdam.
After a careful observation of the unfolding events particularly the utterance of its supposed Secretary, I wish to state the following as the Constituency Chairman of Nabdam.
- The Regional Chairman who is a native of Nabdam did not at any point interfered in the work of the Constituency Executives or my good self as alleged by the spokesperson of the group
- It is not also true that the Regional Chairman during the vetting of the Parliamentary aspirants stated that he will resign his position as Regional Chairman should NPP fail to snatch the seat from the NDC
- The few occasions that the Regional Chairman attended our meetings, he helps enrich our discussions and also explained Regional Executive decisions that needed the action of the Constituency Executive Committee. I am fully aware same is done in other constituencies in the region
- As a Constituency Chairman for three occasions, I can testify that the Regional Chairman has contributed immensely to the growth of the Party over the years; serving as Party Agent at Polling station, collation center and a Research and Elections Officer of the constituency. His financial support to the current Constituency Executive Committee is highly commendable
- I consider the allegation that, in Nabdam, it was the Regional Chairman who decided who should be involved in the campaign as unfortunate and malicious. I want to put on record here that there was an all-inclusive Constituency Campaign Team inaugurated by the Upper East Regional Secretary. Later there were five expanded Zonal Campaign Teams. These Zonal Teams were used for the electioneering campaign in Nabdam.
In conclusion, I want to state here that the Constituency appreciates the effort put up by the Regional Chairman and his Executives and has absolute confidence in their ability in the running of the region. And any systematic attempt to reduce the national appeal of lawyer Anthony Namoo using people who have personal problems with him should not be tolerated by genuine lovers of the New Patriotic Party.
So I can only conclude that the group Secretary Mr. Theophilus Abolga who earlier had at his disposal luxury private office and a Ford Pick-up of the Regional Chairman is not happy that he has been removed from the office and he is merely exhibiting ‘child tantrums’.
I am aware the Party has put a Committee in place to review the performance of the Party in the 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary elections and no one should, out of guilty conscious rush into pointing fingers at others.
Thank you all.
God bless the New Patriotic Party, God bless our Homeland Ghana
