Supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region on Wednesday, December 23, became the latest branch of the party to demonstrate over the outcome of the 2020 general election.
This forms part of series of demonstrations nationwide to amplify the party’s concerns on what it termed as a flawed election.
The protesters were seen burning lorry tyres in some principal streets of the regional capital, Bolgatanga; holding placards with inscriptions like ‘No Mahama, No Peace,’ ‘EC be a mother,’ We need justices’, among others.
The aggrieved protesters claimed the opposition NDC, led by John Mahama was the rightful winner of the 2020 election.
The protesters, led by NDC National First Vice Chairman, Chief Sofo Azoga and other leading members of the Party in the Upper East Region presented a petition to the Upper East Regional Office of the Electoral Commission.
Reading the petition, the party’s Upper East Regional secretary, Donatus Akamugre Atanga, said the rank and file of the party in the Upper East Region are surely behind the position of the party’s flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama.
He also called on the security agencies not to allowed themselves to be used for unlawful duties, hence they should be professional.
