Some football lovers in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region have reacted to the sudden dismissal of the Black Stars coach, CK Akonnor by the Ghana Football Association (GFA).

The decision by the Executive Council of the GFA, they said was rather a misplaced action as sacking the head coach had nothing to do with redeeming the image of the team.

The Executive Council of the GFA on Monday, Septmber 13, 2021, terminated the appointment of the Coach and his two Assistants with immediate effect following the Black Stars’ Group G World Cup qualifying matches against Ethiopia and South Africa.

But reacting to the termination on A1 Radio, they suggested to the council to focus more on how it could overcome and resist political interference rather than the performance of head coaches.

According to them, the continued political interference has eaten deep into the football fraternity which often makes it difficult for appointed coaches to operate freely.

The situation, they say ought to be stopped if not, it will gradually turn the football fraternity specifically, the Black Stars into a useless team worse than its current state.

“For how long will the council continue to sack and replace coaches due to bad performance, the problem is not with the coaches the problem is too much political involvement. We know the council is aware of that yet it fails to address that but ather sees sacking of coaches as the way to go. And I must say that is ridiculing.” A football lover with the name Robert says.

Another football lover also believes that the GFA’s action was rather to protect its members’ image.

He said “The executive council knows very well that there is too much politics in Ghana football. The executive members know that appointed coaches have little power over the players as well as what goes on in the team. C. K Akonnor, for me, did his best and I don’t wish doom for the Black Stars but politics is too much there.”

“Until political hands are washed away, coaches will continue to be changed for the team. The least talk about Black Stars the better. And I must add that I don’t watch Ghana football again because we know our problem yet we will not confront it”, another football lover, Kwasi remarked.

Meanwhile, fingers are pointing that Milovan Rajevac has been asked to return and head the Black Stars.

Mr. Rajevac was a professional footballer and has been a head coach to the Black Stars from 2008–2010.
