Independent Fomena MP gets nod as 2nd Deputy Speaker of 8th Parliament

Independent Member of Parliament (MP) for Fomena Constituency, Andrews Amoako Asiamah, has been named as the second Deputy Speaker of Parliament for Ghana’s 8th Parliament.

Mr. Asiamah served as the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP in the previous parliament but was expelled from the party prio to the December 7, 2020 general elections under what many described to be a controversial situation; but he, nonetheless regained his seat as an independent candidate.

In a rather unexpected twist, the motion for Mr. Asiamah’s nomination as Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament was moved by the National Democratic (NDC) MP for Asawase, Alhaji Muntaka Mohammed; seconded by Effutu MP Alexander Afenyo-Markin of the NPP.

Earlier on, Joseph osei Owusu, also known as Joe Wise, Mp for Bekwai Constituency was elected as the First deputy Speaker of the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic.
