Communication Team Member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region, Abdallah Issah Jonathan, has stated that his party will bring back Former President John dramani Mahama as its flagbearer in the 2024 general elections; in case it fails to win the 2020 election petition in court.
He said “Let me put it on record for our friends in the NPP {New Patriotic Party} who don’t like President Mahama to note that we’re hopeful that this election petition will go our way; but in case it doesn’t, we will still bring back President John Mahama as NDC’s flagbearer in the year 2024.”
According to Mr. Abdallah, the former president would be allowed to contest the flagbearership race of NDC unopposed; because “the only person the New Patriotic Party fears in the NDC is President John Mahama.”
“We are confident of winning the election petition case in court; but in case it doesn’t go our way, whether President Mahama will like to contest or not, we will bring him back to win the elections for us.” He said on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East program.
Meanwhile, Communication Team Member of the NPP in the Upper East Region, Samuel Akonga, believes “The NDC’s petition to the supreme Court is a waste of time”, because according to him, the party “doesn’t have any substantial evidence to convince the court that the 2020 election result was flawed.”
He therefore wants the Supreme Court to “dismiss the petition of the NDC so that the president can have time to work.”
