The Upper East Regional Minister, Tangoba Abayage has visited some selected schools in the Bolgatanga Municipality to observe the preparedness of both teachers and pupils for academic activities, after a nearly 10 months closure of schools in the country due to the havoc of the coronavirus pandemic.

The minister together with the Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Joseph Amiyuure Atuura, the Regional Director of Education, Edward Azure and Bolgatanga Municipal Director of Education, Ann Kye-eebo Estella went round schools in the municipality.

The schools she visited include the Anglican Primary School, St. Charles Special Needs School and the Bolgatanga Preparatory school. Madam Tangoba who spoke to the media was excited to see academic activities ongoing at the schools visited.

“We came around to see how the teachers and students are participating in the re-opening, whether they have come to school, because some parents are a bit apprehensive. Schools have just re-opened and other schools are still setting down, but the schools we came, you notice that classes have started already and the pupils are happy. So, I am encouraged with the numbers in the schools”

The minister presented nose mask, hand sanitizers, biscuits and soft drinks to the pupils in the schools.

Madam Tangoba who noticed that some of pupils reported back to school without nose masks, gave an assurance that the “Ghana Education Service and the various assemblies are liaising to ensure PPEs are made available to all schools in the Region.”

She admonished them to maintain personal hygiene and as well wear the face masks at all time and avoid sharing their masks with colleagues.

“I also urged them to keep their masks neat by washing them every day after close of school with soap and water.”
