Some workers of the Bolgatanga branch of the Metro Mass Transit in the Upper East Region have been left in a state of fear and panic, as their colleague reportedly died due to Covid-19 infection.

The female staff of the company died on Monday, January 18, 2021, and yet not all staff have agreed to go for Covid-19 testing and the few that have gone for the test are yet to know their status. This is increasing the fear in the staff and some passengers who are aware of what has happened.

The Upper East Regional Depot Manager of Metro Mass Transit, Malik Ibrahim in an interview with a1radioonline.com confirmed the death of the female staff of the company and declined to mention her name.

He said: “She came here on Sunday (January 17) and per her duties, she and others are to schedule the buses at the terminal. So, they are mostly based at the terminal to dispatch buses. On Sunday I am told she came to work; … she did not show any sign of weakness or illness and so, for her to die the following day is frightening. I am worried …”

Meanwhile, A1 Radio’s interaction with some patrons of the Metro Mass buses revealed that there has not been strict compliance of face mask-wearing on the buses. Even though the conductors inspect face masks before boarding the buses and also announce that passengers should wear their masks, people remove their masks along the journey, with the excuse that they cannot breathe properly when they wear the mask.

A1 Radio will continue to monitor if the situation will remain the same after the news about the death of Metro Mass staff has gone viral.
