The Vice-Chairman of the Appointments Committee Parliament and Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu has announced that the Appointments Committee in parliament is very likely to vet the Minister of Health designate, Kwaku Agyemang Manu first, considering the enormous work that has to be done in the health sector.

From January 1, 2021, Ghana has been recording some higher numbers of Covid-19 cases across the country and definitely will need a leader in the Health Sector to take some critical decisions.

According to Haruna Iddrisu, the committee has met in preparation for the vetting and has opened its doors to receive memoranda from the public in respect of all the persons that have been nominated for appointments as ministers of state.

The Vice-Chairman of the Appointments Committee made the announcement at a press briefing in Accra.

“We are expected to start vetting or scrutinize on the 10th February; priority will be given to some ministers, especially health, because of the Covid situation in the country. And probably he will be the first minister-designate to be considered by our committee, followed by those other ministers of National Security and Finance.”

The Appointment Committee is expected to start vetting the 46 minister designates including Mavis Hawa Koomson -Minister-designate for Fisheries and Aquaculture Development, who some National Democratic Congress MPs have predicted that she will not make the pass mark.
