Founder and Head Pastor of the Pearls of Prayer Ministry in Bolgatanga, Prophet Kenneth Afflu, has asked Christians and musicians in the gospel industry, not to be quick to condemn songs created by musicians that have been tagged as secular.

According to Prophet Ken, as popularly known, there is no power in just the title or genre of a song, rather the lyrics that form the message in that song.

He believes that there are many ‘secular’ songs around that can inspire a sinner to become born again, get the oppressed to have faith in God, and also get the hopeless to be hopeful that there will be a brighter day soon.

“We have condemned them and we even refer to them as songs of the world; it is very unfortunate, because if people in the gospel industry and even the churches know the good works that some secular songs and artistes are doing for unbelievers and people in the slums, we, who call ourselves the ‘light of the world’ will be quick to collaborate with them to win more souls for our God almighty.”

Prophet Ken was speaking in an interview with A1radioonline.com in reaction to recent discussions and ‘fight’ by some gospel musicians and Christians over how some gospel musicians have featured secular artistes in their gospel songs.

A few weeks ago, some Christians and gospel musicians criticized Celestine Donkor (a gospel artiste) for featuring Akwaboah (a circular artiste) in her song,    “Yeda Wase” (We thank you God).

Some Christians and gospel artistes did not see why she collaborated with a ‘worldly’ person for a gospel project.

Prophet Ken in his response said: “If really, the intention of a gospel artiste, is to win souls from the world to God through Christ, then what is wrong if we use the medium the world knows, to reach them. If Shatta Wale can do a few inspirational lines on a gospel track, to get the Shatta fans to accept and listen to the message in this gospel song, what is wrong with this. Stonebwoy has a song called ‘Tuff Seed’, you need to listen to that song carefully. The words are good and the message is inspiring. There are times when Christians go through a lot of tribulations and we do not know what to do.

Some Christians have given up because they had to surrender to the devil to be free from his oppression. If you listen to ‘Tuff Seed’, the musician is telling us that, no matter how we are oppressed and frustrated, if we persevere, we shall overcome.

Listen to this line in the song, ‘… Only if they knew that I am a seed, …they will never dig me down’. This is true, if they knew that crucifying Jesus will bring salvation to the world, they wouldn’t have crucified him. If you bury one seed, it will grow and become bigger and produce more seeds and become useful to the world.”

Prophet Ken believes that gospel musicians that have decided to feature secular musicians on their songs are on the right path, and if their fellow gospel musicians will not encourage them, they should look up to God for inspiration and guidance, as they sing to win souls for the Kingdom of God through Jesus Christ.
