As road accidents increasingly occur in Bolgatanga and across the country, communication team member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Upper East Region Joseph Kancha, has called on state authorities to install closed-circuit television cameras (CCTVs) on the streets of Bolgatanga specially around traffic terminals.

According to Mr. Kancha, this will help reduce road accidents as well as help the police apprehend persons who breach road traffic regulations.

He believes the failure of many road users to obey traffic regulations is largely responsible for the high rate of road crashes in Bolgatanga.

“I will advice that since we want to reduce road accidents, state authorities should install CCTV cameras all over traffic terminals. And with this, the police can trace even up to the DVLA offices and identify the offenders who disobey the traffic rules and sanction them accordingly.”

He continued that “Sometimes you will stop at the traffic lights because it shows Red; yet other road users will come and pass away, as if the light is green. This kind of indiscipline causes so many accidents on our roads. And not much has been done to bring these perpetrators to book in order for them to avoid such behavior on our roads which always put innocent People into trouble by crashing them.”

Joseph Kancha make this comments on A1 Radio’s current affairs program dubbed ‘Zina Yela’ on Wednesday.
