Amidst persistent armed robbery attacks on the Walewale stretch of the Tamale-Bolgatanga highway in the North East Region, the Inspector General of Police, James Oppong Boanuh has replaced the Walewale Divisional Police Commander, Superintendent Samuel Yeboah.

The replacement of Superintendent Yeboah with Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Comos Awe, follows months of tension between some junior police officers in the area who have accused their superior of unfair treatment.

As an immediate measure to curtail the robbery attacks, IGP Oppong Boanuh has also deployed a 29-member armed police taskforce from the national headquarters for a special operation on the highway and in parts of the municipality.

Addressing a strike action undertaken by members of tomato traders and transporters association, chairman of the Walewale Municipal Security Council, Aremeyaw Somo Lucky, assured road users that security on the road has been enhanced.

Members of the association had declared a strike action in protestation of recent robbery attacks on them.
