Kumasi Asante Kotoko were yesterday beaten at home by Algerian counterpart Es Setif in the CAF Confederation Cup qualifiers.

The fixture which took place at the Accra Sports stadium on Valentine’s Day happened to be a bitter one for the Kumasi-based club and a big blow to Ghana’s stay in the CAF Confederation League.

The Porcupine Warriors threw away a one-nil lead to lose to the Arab opposition on Sunday evening.

The two sides failed to score in the first half of the tie, as both teams struggled to create clear goalscoring opportunities until the second half.

The host took the lead mid through in the second half only for the Algerian club to equalize 6 minutes later.

Kwame Opoku completes a sweet build-up play with a cool finish into the right-bottom corner as he latches onto Emmanuel Gyamfi’s through pass to put Kotoko in the lead.

The lead lasted for only 6 minutes as Setif’s 20 years old striker Mohamed Amoura heads home from close range to cancel the host slim lead.

The Black Eagles then took the lead as Kendouci Mohammed makes it two for Setif with a shot from close-range on the 80th minute to win the match.

Kotoko would be hoping to correct their mistakes in the second leg of the fixture which is set to be played in Algeria next week.
