IGP begins working tour of Upper East Region

The Inspector-General of Police, James Oppong-Boanuh on Wednesday February 17, 2021, commenced a working tour of the Upper East Region.

His visit is part of a general tour of crime hotspots in the five regions in the northern part of Ghana, where in recent times, there have been reports of recurring highway robberies and killings.

The IGP is visiting after the Ghana Police Service is reported to have dispatched a Special Anti-Robbery Teams to support local police in some of the affected areas, to combat crime.

The Upper East Regional Police PRO ASP David Okyere-Fianko, in an interview on A1 Radio’s Daybreak Upper East programme, said the IGP will visit some of the districts that have suffered some armed robberies and killings by criminals in recently in the Upper East Region.

“Aside the general tour of the region, the IGP will visit some crime scenes, especially where some of the reported highway robberies occurred.

Mr. James Oppong-Boanuh, according to the Regional Police PRO will also have an interactive session with the media in the region, as part of his tour to brief them on some findings, as well as some measures that have been put in place to curb the robberies and killings.

The PRO announced that the Ghana Police Service has put in place some measures to help commuting traders, especially the tomato traders and transporters who recently came under attacks by armed robbers.
