Deputy General Secretary of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Obiri Boahen says, Ghanaians who are showing resistance to taking the Covid-19 jabs should be ignored and not pampered.

According to the maverick lawyer, matters of health must be given the necessary serious attention devoid of politicisation.

And anyone who treks the path of politics to downplay the importance of the exercise does not deserve any persuasion.

He added that, it was unfortunate to observe that, those who should know better are rather flaming this fire of ignorance for crafty political gains.

His comments follow attempted doubts created by some known political activists about the efficacy of the vaccine and peddling conspiracy theories to discredit it.

He said this in an interview on Daybreak Upper East on A1 Radio.

“Sometimes I get very angry and upset when I hear some people that they will not take the vaccine .if you don’t take the vaccine who cares ? It sad to be wasting our time who should know better . We should ignore them ,they should not go and take the vaccine”.

Ghana is among 142 countries to benefit from the pillar of the Access to COVID-19 Tools (ACT) Accelerator(COVAX) rolled out by the World Health Organisation(WHO).

So far, 600,000 doses have been recieved by the government of Ghana and administering of the vaccine has begun, with the President Nana Akufo-Addo taking the first jab publicly to commence the nationwide exercise for a category of persons for the time frame while, other doses are expected to arrive in the coming days for a nationwide vaccination.

Acvording WHO, developing a vaccine against COVID-19 is the most pressing challenge of our time – and nobody wins the race until everyone wins.

The global pandemic has already caused the loss of hundreds of thousands of lives and disrupted the lives of billions more.

As well as reducing the tragic loss of life and helping to get the pandemic under control, introduction of a vaccine will prevent the loss of US$ 375 billion to the global economy every month.

Global equitable access to a vaccine, particularly protecting health care workers and those most-at-risk is the only way to mitigate the public health and economic impact of the pandemic.
