Two mobile money vendors in Bongo Soe community, a suburb of Bongo in the Upper East Region have been reportedly attacked and robbed at gunpoint by unknown armed men.

The unfortunate incident which happened in broad daylight left many residents, traders, and commuters in fear and panic.

But according to eyewitnesses, the masked armed men came to the community at about 8 am with guns on motorbikes, firing warning shots, and eventually settled on two mobile money vendors who were stationed opposite sides of each other.

Though the exact amounts of money taken from these vendors were not disclosed, the  Assembly Member of Bongo Soe -Awukabiisi Electoral Area, Awuure Daniel Nyaaba told A1 Radio that the amounts if total could be closed to Ghc 19,000.00 or above.

“One of the vendors told me that the armed men took away Ghc10,000.00 and while the other also said Ghc 9,000.00 plus with mobile devices were also taken by these same robbers.”

Mr. Nyaaba noted also that the armed men’s actions took them by surprise as they as a community have never witnessed a daylight robbery in the area.

“In some time past, it used to be in the night around 8 pm to 9 pm, but I’m surprised. And if you look at the actions of the robbers, I’m sensing that they have intel within if not how can they targeted these two vendors to the extent of knowing that one of the vendors’ money was not up and was hidden in a dustbin.  Again, I have a feeling that these robbers could be the same people who last went to Pelungu market to rob and eventually shot and killed that young man.”

He however called on the security personnel to take action in finding solutions to end these incidents.

Meanwhile, the acting District Chief Executive, Peter Ayinbisa who could not comprehend the whole situation called on the police to take swift measures in ensuring incidents of such nature do not occur in the district again.

He also called on the community members to always be their own security and discharge intel to the rightful authorities as soon as possible as that helps the police to carry out effective work.
