Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly to enforce issuance of physical development permits on March 9

The Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly has served notice that effective Tuesday March 9, 2021, it would begin an exercise to ensure that all physical developers in the municipality obtain or renew their permits where necessary.

In a public notice signed by the Acting Municipal Coordinating Director, Alhaji Mahamadu Azonko and copied A1 Radio, reference is made to Section 91 (1) of the Local Governance Ac of 2016, Act 936 which states that: A person shall not carry out a physical development in a district except with the prior written approval in the form of a written permit issued by the District Planning Authority. Again, section 92 (1) states that; A District Planning Authority may levy a development charge in respect of a permit to carry out a physical development.

The notice further indicates, “According to section 93 (1 and 3) of the Act, a District Planning Authority may issue a permit for physical development with conditions or without conditions. The assembly may revoke the permit or add conditions to an already issued permit.

Sections 94 (1-3) stipulates enforcement/action in respect of unauthorized development. Suffice to state that, the section 94 (4) indicates the sanction/punishment thereof when a developer fails to comply with stop work order from the assembly.”

The public is hereby notified that permits for temporary structures are for six months duration subject to renewal.
