The new Upper East Regional Minister, Ambassador Stephen Yakubu has called for all hands on deck to develop the region.

“We need to develop our region, the region we love so much and all the problems that are in the region, we are going to catalog them. We are going to look at them and grade them and see how we can handle them.”

Ambassador Stephen Yakubu was speaking in a brief interview on Sunday, March 14 after a traditional ceremony to welcome him to the Upper East Region as the Regional Minister.

The minister has given the indication that he will work closely with the security agencies to find ways to reduce crime in the region so that people across the region can go about their businesses and other activities without fear.

“… I think our main issue is security because we have been having a lot of issues about security in the region and I am going to engage the security services and we will see how we can bring that very low, so that everybody can go about doing their work in peace and be happy.”

The Upper East Regional Minister arrived quietly on Sunday, March 14, afternoon at about 3:30pm. The minister’s arrival was characterized by some changes from what the region has witnessed over the years during the arrival of regional ministers.

On Sunday, the traditional rites to usher the minister into the region were not done Pwalugu (at the entrance of the region) as usual, rather it was done in the Bolgatanga Municipality.

Some residents who spoke with a1radioonline.com said the minister’s silent entry to the region could be due to Covid-19 restrictions. Others said they were not surprised because the minister is naturally a reserved person.

Ambassador Stephen Yakubu arrived in Bolgatanga in the company of the Upper East Regional Police Commander, the Bolgatanga MCE-Joseph Amiyuure, some NPP Executives, and the NPP’s 2020 Parliamentary Candidate, Rex Asanga.
