An Aviation Expert, Captain Victor Amoah has welcomed Government’s decision to commerce the construction of aerodromes in some selected areas in Ghana including Navrongo-Paga in the Upper East Region though the project will later be spread to other regions of the country.

Speaking on ‘DayBreak Upper East’ programme on A1 Radio, he said, the aerodrome when upgraded and licensed, can become an airport for commercial purposes. This when Constructed will create jobs and boost economic activities in the region.

He said, “If this airstrip in Navrongo is upgraded to an airport, as in the budget, taxis business will be increased, there is going to be restaurants and shops around [creating jobs for the people], there will be hotels there for those coming for trips. As you have hotels around, the nation gets taxes.”

On Page 166, paragraph 913 of Government’s 2021 Budget and Economic Policy Statement read in parliament by the caretaker finance minister, Osei Kyei Mensa Bonsu, it said the ministry will commence feasibility studies for the development of an airport in Cape Coast. Other sites identified for the construction of aerodromes include Apowa-Mpohor, Yendi, Mole, Navrongo Paga and Let Krachi through public private partnerships.

However, Captain Victor is of a strong conviction that, this project when constructed will have a large positive impact on the region.
