Bolgatanga Municipal Chief Executive, Joseph Amiyuure Atura has said that posterity will judge everyone including the butchers over their refusal to put to use the newly constructed ultra-modern abattoir at Yorogo, a suburb of the municipality.

According to him, the assembly has invested huge resources to complete the abattoir, hence it will only be an act of wickedness if it is left to rot.

The ultra-modern abattoir which has its funding support from the World Banks was built and completed in 2018, but has been abandoned by the butchers.

Reasons for its abandonment, some reports attributed to the butchers, say the location of the new abattoir is far from the business capital as well as lack of consultations by the assembly.

But speaking at the first 2021 Ordinary Meeting of the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly and monitored by A1 Radio, Mr. Atura noted that the building if not put to use the assembly may not get another funding support from the World Bank.

He said: “If the facility remains unutilized, posterity will not forgive us if we allow the building to rot. As an assembly, we owe it a duty to ensure that the facility is put to judicious use and we cannot renege in our responsibility in that respect.”

However, some of the butchers were still of the view that they will not use the abattoir.
