Residents in the Zinga-Tanga-Zuo section in Kableo, a suburb of the Bolgatanga Municipality in the Upper East Region are calling on benevolent organizations to support the area with boreholes for potable water.

According to them, the only borehole that they depend on for water has run out of water.

The borehole, they say was constructed in 2019 by the Member of Parliament for Bolgatanga Central, Isaac Adongo to address the water situation in the area, but has unfortunately turned into a nightmare for them.

Speaking to some of the residents, they told A1 Radio that they never anticipated such a situation.

A resident, Ayinbire Adiira said “I was happy when the borehole was drilled in here. Because we here struggle a lot for water, but now it can not even fill two buckets. Yes, our MP did his best but he has to call the contractor back.”

Anontee Michael, another resident also noted that the situation has made some of them lose fate in having access to potable water.

He said, “We will not say our MP did not do well but as it stands, the borehole is not helping us. This borehole can not provide constant water for 30 minutes. Yes, we cried for water but not this type of borehole. Our water situation is worrisome because you will see a borehole in front of your nose yet no water in it.”

Nmaa Nkiibisi Atinga also said that she could not think far as to why despite their numerous calls to the MP and the contractor, they failed to honor them.

She said, “This borehole early at 5 am there will be water but getting to 9 am it will be empty. We have made several appeals to the MP to call the contractor back to the site but zero.”

But speaking to the Assembly member of the Kalbeo Electoral Area, Mathias Asokiyine noted that the MP was aware of the situation as he has placed several calls to him regarding the borehole.

He said, “Yes, the MP has done his bit in providing water for the people here but the challenge is the work was done poorly. This particular area is having a resident population of about 6,000 and you can imagine going through this stress for water. All that we wish for is for the MP to call the contractor back to site.”

Meanwhile, the borehole according to reports was constructed on 20 June 2019 and commissioned at the peak of the just-ended 2020 elections.

This, however, made many develop the notion that the borehole was for campaign purposes not to solve the plight of the residents.
