Upper West Regional Police Command has said its attention has not been drawn to an incident that some police officers in Wa chased two motorists into a room and sprayed pepper on them.

A1 Radio’s Upper West Regional Correspondent, Denis Babene reported on Friday April 9, 2021 that a police patrol team Thursday night chased two young men on an unregistered motorbike into a room in which a woman and her children were sleeping and sprayed pepper on them. As a result, the woman and her child sustained injuries and were rushed to a hospital for treatment.

But speaking on Reporters’ Visit on Friday, Upper West Regional Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng said the incident has not come to the attention of the command.

According to the PRO, police patrol teams always receive briefings and given strict instructions as to what to do on duty and are thus expected to give a report of what happens on duty.

He said officers who fail to report appropriately are reprimanded if they misconduct themselves and their misconduct is reported to the command by victims of their actions.

The Police Inspector advised the victims to lodge a formal report at the command for investigation to be conducted and the officers involved dealt with if found culpable.
