Upper West Regional Police Command says it will from Wednesday, April 21, 2021 begin to arrest and prosecute people who drive or ride without licenses.

The Public Relation Officer of the Upper West Regional Police Command, Chief Inspector Gideon Ohene Boateng in an interview with A1 Radio, said the command has realized that people are driving or riding without the authorized document to ride or drive.

He observed that many drivers and riders do not respect the road safety regulations such as traffic regulation and jump traffic carelessly while others are using the road, endangering their lives and the lives of other road users.

The PRO said he believes that most of the people who do not have regard for road traffic regulations are without the requisite legal document to be on the road either with vehicles or motorbikes.

Chief Inspector Boateng cautioned against those using unregistered vehicles, tricycles and motorbikes to do the right thing or face the full rigors of the law when arrested.

He said, “The Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Aboagye Nyarko and his men have sat down and realized that some people misuse the road and the traffic observances are not adhered to, hence the exercise will be carried out on Wednesday.”

He added that the police is advising road users like vehicles owners, motorist, tricycles and ‘cando’ riders who do not have the legal documents to be on the road to get the necessary documentation from the DVLA before Wednesday or face the law.

Chief Inspector Boateng said, the days where people commit offenses and Tijaabun-yeni in the Upper West Region always come to their rescue is over and Wednesday’s special exercise that will be carried out, offenders will not be spared.

He also urged Drivers, Mobile Money Vendors and individuals to seek police escort when traveling or when they close from business and feel unsafe to go home alone.

Chief Inspector advised that people must be aware that they are living with criminals in the society and must assist the police with information to help reduce robberies and crime rate in the Region.
