One of Ghana’s leading ICT training institutes, OpenLabs-Ghana, formally NIIT-Ghana is set to start operation in the Upper East region, to offer residents the opportunity to have access to world-class ICT training in all areas.
The institute which started its operation in Ghana some two decades ago, with learning campuses in Accra, Tema, Kumasi, Tamale, and Takoradi, has started a process to start training in the Upper East region.
For many years, people in the Upper East Region who are interested in gaining world-class practical and theoretical training with OpenLabs-Ghana had to travel to Tamale on weekly basis for lectures.
Speaking at a one-day National Conference in Bolgatanga in the Upper East Region, under the theme “Data Science and Information Digitalization”, the Director and Business Head of OpenLabs-Ghana, Dr. Sujith Jayaprakash said, Information Technology (IT) is now becoming the driving force of all sectors of Ghana’s economic and for this reason, OpenLabs is extending its services to the region to impart IT knowledge to the people in the Upper East Region.
He said: “Now we are moving more to a Technological world, technology is now becoming the backbone of every business we do, right from trading or agriculture or any industry you take for that matter. So, it is important that as a Tech school in Ghana we make people understand the importance and how they can use technological tools to improve their businesses. This is why we came up with this conference in Bolgatanga. We are impressed with the number of attendees and their level of interest and participation.”
Meanwhile speaking to A1 News after the conference, the Tamale Campus Manager Prince Charles Ofosu, was excited with the number of people who attended the conference and urge residents of the Upper East Region to register with OpenLabs-Ghana for tailored IT courses as well as other courses that will make them relevant to industries in Ghana. He believes that OpenLabs-Ghana has what it takes to bridge the gap between the North and the south in terms of IT skills.
Some participants of the one-day conference were happy with the IT training OpenLabs is bringing to the people of the region, considering the fact that they wouldn’t have to travel to Tamale for lectures.
