The General Manager of A1 Radio and an aspirant for the Upper East Regional chairmanship position of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA), William Nlanjerbor Jalulah has said establishing a regional secretariat for the association will be his topmost priority should he get the opportunity to lead the association.

Mr Jalulah, who was speaking to the media after filing his nominations to contest for the chairmanship position said for a long time, the association in the region has been without a secretariat and as such, a facility with a furnished office, conference hall with internet access will help journalists in the region to walk in at anytime and file their stories.

He added that it is imperative to rebrand the association to make it more attractive and also to get more media practitioners who are qualified per the association’s constitution to join because over the years, some qualified media practitioners have had it difficult joining the association which should not have been the case.

Mr Jalulah said he will also focus on building the capacity of journalists in the region and encourage them to specialise in areas such as crime reporting, environmental reporting among other tropical issues.

Positions to be contested for at the regional level include Regional Chairperson, Reginal Vice Chairperson, Regional Secretary and Treasurer. Mr Jalulah has becomes the first candidate in the Upper East Region to have submitted his nominations forms to the GJA election committee Chairperson, Hannah Zemp-Tapang.

Closing date for the submission of nomination forms is May 4, 2021.

If elected, Mr Jalulah will be taking over from Eric Amoh of the Ghana News Agency who is the current Regional Chairman of the GJA.
