Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has revealed that comprehensive measures are being undertaken to address the treatment of kidney disease in Ghana.
Speaking during a meeting with clergy members in Bolgatanga as part of his Upper East Region campaign tour, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the inclusion of dialysis treatment under the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
Dr. Bawumia emphasized that the government has already invested GH¢2 million to support dialysis treatment across the country. This financial commitment, he said, aimed at making dialysis more accessible and affordable for Ghanaians suffering from kidney disease.
“Kidney disease is a significant health challenge for many Ghanaians, and the cost of treatment has been a barrier for too long. By incorporating dialysis into the NHIS, we are taking a major step toward ensuring that every Ghanaian has access to necessary medical care, regardless of their financial situation,” Dr. Bawumia stated.
He further explained that if given the mandate, his administration would prioritize bringing advanced medical technology to Ghana.
“The goal is to modernize our healthcare infrastructure and provide the best possible care for our citizens. By investing in technology and healthcare, we can improve the quality of life for countless Ghanaians,” Dr. Bawumia added.
The clergy members at the meeting in Bolgatanga expressed their support for the initiative, noting the potential positive impact on their communities.
