Waging into #fix the country online campaign, some residents in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region are calling on the government to take a second look at the “hardship” in the economy.

According to them, the price of a condom was selling at Ghc 1.50p but due to the hardship in the economy, a condom is now selling at Ghc2.50p thereby making nightlife difficult for them.

In random interaction with some of them on A1 Radio, they noted that the current economic situation is making life so scarier and they never thought to see a day like this in Ghana.

Richard Kamal, a resident said “As I’m speaking to you, do you know that they have increased condom prices. Yes!!! they have! So imagine if common condom, which its main purpose was to help protect people against sexually transmitted diseases is now expensive that we can not buy again. And you say we should not demand accountability from you, Mr. Nana come again.”

Another resident, Samuel Timothy, noted that prices of foodstuffs were skyrocketing to the point that he was beginning to doubt the credibility of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) government as good managers of the economy.

He said, “This government promised us heaven and honey but here we are; common salt is not common again for the common people. I’m highly disappointed in this government.”

Musah Salifu a resident also expressed his disappointment on how prices of petroleum products were shooting upwards.

According to him, the government under the NPP should be ashamed of itself as he never thought that leaders of the party could deceive Ghanaians to such an extent.

Meanwhile, when A1 Radio visited the Bolgatanga market to ascertain the prices of some foodstuffs, it was revealed that on each market day traders keep increasing the prices of their goods with or without permission from the Traders Union in the region.
