Some residents of Wa in the Upper West Region are unhappy with the High Court decision to restrain the #FixTheCountry protests which was slated for Sunday, May 9, 2021 because of the restriction on public gathering.

The residents said they do not understand why the Police and the Court were in this country while political rallies took place amidst the same restrictions and nothing happened to the organizers of such events.

They believed that the police service and the judiciary service are being manipulated by the politicians to prevent the youth from expressing their frustration over issues in the country.

They expressed their dissatisfaction when A1 Radio Upper West Regional Correspondent Dennis Bebane visited the street of Wa to seek people’s views on the issue.

A cross-section of Ghanaians has been expressing their displeasure with the government’s handling of the economy on social media with the #FixTheCountry hashtag.

The group cited ‘dumsor’, unemployment and poor healthcare systems as proof of successive governments’ mismanagement of the country.

They planned a demonstration on May 9, 2021, but their request for Police protection was rejected and subsequently an in-conjunction by an Accra High Court restraining the group from holding a protest march.

Meanwhile, Vice President, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia on Thursday, May 6, responded to the campaigners saying the Party and for that matter, government has shown commitment to improving the living conditions of Ghanaians since coming into power in 2017.

However, his response does not seems to have found favour with most residents of Wa who say the campaigners are expressing genuine concerns which need to be addressed.
