Member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) communications team Miss. Monica Bakiva, has sarcastically jabbed the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) over recent development where the party is setting a record of 229 persons filing to occupy the 15 Municipal, District Chief Executives positions in the Upper East Region alone.

Commenting on the issue on DAYBREAK Upper East show on A1 Radion, Miss. Bakiva quizzed the NPP whether the MMDCEs position is a beauty contest.

She indicated that the juicy package that accompany the MMDCEs job is the motivator, that the region is recording the huge number of applicants

She said, “what is calling for this, is the massive corruption that is going in this country, if MCEs and DCEs were fired for not doing their work, I think those in position would have sat up and this time, the rush for the MMDCEs position that we are seeing, wouldn’t have happened. We’ve seen people who have been there for the past five years, they have brought nothing on board, they rather benefited. Somebody who was riding a motorbike is now driving and has put up his own building. You take a district like Kassena- Nankana West that is one of the youngest in the region and we have about 16 people contesting. Is it a beauty contest?”

The large number of people going for MMDCEs position across the country is raising concerns about what could be a ‘mad rush’ for political positions.
