In spite of an ongoing strike action by Laboratory Scientists across the country, Union of May Borns (UMABO) is poised to go ahead with its planed blood donation exercise on Saturday May 29, 2021. The exercise is part of the union’s annual humanitarian service to society.

Though in an interview with A1 Radio, President of UMABO, William Nlanjerbor Jalulah regretted that the strike has led to the Upper Regional Hospital in Bolgatanga pulling out of the exercise, the leadership has immediately liaised with Amiah Hospital, a private hospital in Bolgatanga to step in.

Mr Jalulah said, “We wrote to the Regional Hospital and Afrikids Medical Center and the both confirmed to support us carry out this important exercise but just this afternoon, I received a call from the Blood Bank Unit of the Regional Hospital that due to the ongoing strike, they will not be able to get lab staff to carry out the exercise.

I felt so sad about it but, immediately, I rushed to Amiah Hospital and met with the Director, Dr Amiah and his administrators and they agreed to support us. That actually gave me a relief and I know we can still go ahead with our planned exercise.”

According to the President, Afrikids Medical Center and Amiah Hospital will carry out the exercise at separate centers.

He, has therefore, appealed to members of the public, especially blood donors and potential donors to come out in their numbers donate to save life.

He explained that the Executive of UMABO had planned to organise another blood donation exercise in September 2021 at Amiah Hospital but since the facility has stepped in for the regional hospital, the leadership will deliberate on the next action to consider in terms of which facilitate will benefit from the second exercise.
