Ghana Statistical Service (GSS), will be deploying neutral enumerators to areas that fall between two districts, to undertake the census exercise so that it is not the basis for which some areas will not be counted in this year’s exercise.

Upper East Regional Statistician, Felix Gali has explained that, communities that sit between two districts will have neutral census enumerators to carry out the national exercise.

Citing examples in the Bolgatanga Municipality, Bongo, Bolgatanga East and the Talensi District respectively, Mr. Gali said, there are communities in these areas that fall in certain enumeration areas in different districts and people in these areas feel their population will be added to a different district so they are raising concerns over it, which the service has kept adequate measures to address such instances.

Speaking on DayBreak Upper East show on A1 Radio, he stated that his outfit is much aware of such instances where a town falls in a different district for enumeration rather than it’s original district which sometimes can bring disagreement because people want to be counted based on their district.

He said, in such instances, they deploy neutral enumerators to such areas so that they can capture the  people and properties in those areas to ensure that there is complete coverage and nowhere is left behind.

This follows some concerns, that were raised by people around the Yorogo area especially around the Yorogo chief palace, who complained that they have were added to the Bongo district for enumeration while they are under the Bolgatanga Municipality and threaten to boycott the exercise.

Mr. Gali noted that, his outfit is aware of the limited sensitization on the exercise in some areas and the statistical service department has taken some measures to help field workers carry out their work without hindrance.

The Director further explained that even though they have done some sensitization and publicity, they have had a few challenges in terms of awareness creation which they are working closely with the information service department to create more awareness about the exercises and its importance.

Mr. Gali, said the ultimate goal of the service is to realize a 100% coverage with quality and reliable data, so all the needed logistics have been kept in place to help achieve the set target.
