Collation of Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) in health is appealing to Ghanaians to concentrate more about the effectiveness and availability of Covid-19 vaccines, rather than the price that it is being procured.

Leader of the collation of NGOs in health, Patrict Namoo who spoke on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio said when the population is vaccinated and they survive the pandemic, then the citizens can work to get enough resources to pay for the cost of the vaccines.

The collation believes, priority should be given to the efficacy and availability of the vaccines, so the debate about the cost of the vaccine is currently misplaced because priority should be given to securing the population.

Mr. Namoo, called on the Ghana Health Service to intense sensitizations especially in the rural areas as the rainy season approaches which could be a catalyst for the spread of the virus.

The ministry of health has received heavy criticism from cross-section of the public when an investigative report by a Norwegian news portal revealed that the Ghanaian government, through the Ministry of Health, has signed an agreement with a private businessman from Dubai to procure the Sputnik V coronavirus vaccines at a higher price by sidestepping regular channels.

According to the investigation, the government was in the process of purchasing the vaccine at US$19 per dose contrary to the manufacturer’s recommended price of $10.
