Deputy Upper East Regional Communications Director of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has called on the Attorney General (AG) to prosecute the law firm that represented the Government of Ghana (GOG) in the case filed by the Ghana Power Generation company.

Speaking on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio, Johnson Ayine explained that “ they should have been able to inform us earlier. you don’t wait until a day to the elapse of the period that you tell me. As a state, let us come together and make this case.”

According to him, the law firm that handled the case did not treat Ghana well by not pre-informing the Attorney General early so he could have made his case and filed a response to the suit.

He explained that, if government had even appealed and lost the case it would have been better off than not having the opportunity to do so which were all caused by the lawyers.

Mr. Ayine accused, the then NDC government for not cross-checking the deal before signing the agreement and passing it to Parliament stating that “ when they were entering into the agreement there are some clauses that when you put them there it creates problem for you.”

He further quizzed, the then NDC government of why it had to set up a committee to investigate the power deal when they had already agreed and signed the contract but knew it was a bad deal? And the findings were that deal be abrogated which saw Ghana slapped with a Judgement of over $170million.

Buttressing his point he stated “ the recommendations of the Ahenkorah Committee was for us to cancel it …they came out with findings that the deal was a bad deal, for that matter terminate it, it wasn’t we that came in a decided to terminate it.”
