Member of Parliament for Builsa South Constituency in the Upper East Region, Dr Clement Apaak has said that he is highly convinced that those individuals who are involved in the logging and transporting of rosewood are no other persons but big men in the current administration.

According to him, the very people who are shouting for the ban of rosewood are using it as a smokescreen to continue aiding on their illegal acts and such people are government officials of the New Patriotic Party.

The ban on harvesting and logging of rosewood species in the middle belt and some parts of Northern Ghana was enforced in 2019.

Regardless of the ban, some individuals still find their way into illegal activity.

Speaking on Daybreak Upper East show on A1 Radio, Dr Apaak alleged that some high profile people of the NPP are aiding in the illegal activity.

Dr Apaak said “The ban on illegal harvesting, transportation and export of rosewood remains a hoax. The same institutions, officials and entities expected to enforce the ban are not only overseeing its violation, but elements therein, are profiting from the destruction of the Savanna Ecological Forest.”

He asked, “How can we claim to be greening Ghana when public, government officials and institutions are busy de-greening Ghana for personal gains?”

Meanwhile, five containers of rosewood meant for export were impounded in the Tema Port of Accra on 17th June 2021.
