The Military High Command has established internal disciplinary measures to deal with the soldiers who molested some civilians in Wa in the Upper West Region without any provocation. The incident took place in Wa on Thursday July 1, 2021.

A statement issued and signed by Colonel E. Aggrey Quashie, the Director- General of the Public Relations Directorate of the Ghana Armed Forces, states: “In view of the seriousness of the matter, the Chief of the Army Staff is leading a high powered military delegation to Wa to meet the traditional and opinion leaders to find an amicable way of resolving this unfortunate incident.”

According to the statement, the delegation would also explore the means to assuage the anger of the people and promote good neighbourliness.

Sighted by A1 News, the statement said, the unprofessional conduct took place at a time when the Commanding Officer of the soldiers, and the Chairman of the Regional Security Council were both out of town on official engagements.

In a viral video on the incident, soldiers are seen beating civilians either with objects or their bare hands and pushing some of them in gutters in a broad day light.

The misconduct, which was allegedly motivated by the missing phone of one of the soldiers, has angered most Ghanaians as it comes just a couple of days after soldiers shot and killed two protesters at Ejura in the Ashanti Region

However, the Ghana Armed Forces has assured that it will no condone any unprofessional conduct by any member of the force.

“The Ghana Armed Forces once again wishes to assure the people of Wa and the general public that their safety is paramount at all times, as such would not condone any unprofessional conduct by any member of the force,” the statement said.
