According to Daily Guide’s report 5 out of the 7 royal families under the Atulbabisi clan met on February 21 and approved a candidate from the Apasenyelum family as Bolga Naba elect.

The newspaper write up went further to report that President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, Naba Segri Bewong was under media criticism for condemning the election of a new chief. However Naba Segri Bewong who described as unfortunate of the publication said Daily Guide issue on Bolga Chieftaincy further throw a wedge into the royal family. He said the regional house of chiefs and the executive secretary of the regional peace council are working towards bringing the feuding factions in the Bolgatanga skin to peaceful consensus. He added they have set mediation team and the mediation team has met the seven families that make-up the Bolgatanga royal family and all have cooperated with the team.

The Minister of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs, Dr. Henry Seidu Danaa who was present during the press briefing called on the media to always make their checks by contacting the House of Chiefs or the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Traditional Affairs when reporting on chieftaincy issues. According to him it is not by law for government to determine who becomes the next Bolga Naba. Dr. Danaa said government can only provide resources to the necessary authorities to adjudicate on chieftaincy issues.
