The Wildlife Division of the Forestry Commission of Ghana has asked the public especially hunters to observe its annual ban on hunting, capturing and destroying wild animals at various forests.

According to the division, the initiative seeks to protect animals especially wild ones from extinction at the various forests in the country.

Touching on the ban, the Upper East Regional Manager of the Division, Joseph Binlinla told A1 Radio that it will begin on August 1st and end on December 1st 2021 as it is usually dubbed as “close season”.

The reason for such a period, he said it the time where majority of the wild animals usually give birth or multiple and will need time to grow the young ones.

He added that during the period if any hunter or persons found culpable gaming in the forest will be forced to face the Wildlife Conservation Regulation 1971 L. I 685.

The Wildlife Conservation Regulation provides hunting restrictions to different species of animals which are classified into wholly and partly protected animals.

It further prohibits hunting without a license and exporting game or trophies without permits and provides for rules and procedures about game licenses and export permits.

Mr Binlinla however called on the public to report to any security agency if anyone found disobeying the ban.

Meanwhile, the forestry commission over the week releases its ban notification asking the public to cooperate.
