Member of Parliament for the Builsa South Constituency in the Upper East Region of Ghana, Dr Clement Apaak has described the decision by government to use seized rosewood for the construction of the national cathedral as a misplaced priority.

Dr Apaak was of the opinion that the seized rosewood must be kept in projects that will directly impact the lives of people from areas where the rosewood was illegally harvested but putting it in the construction of the national cathedral is not the appropriate and best way to use the confiscated rosewood.

Dr Apaak was speaking on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio on August 2, 2021 said students are still laying on their bellies to write in schools especially from areas that these rosewoods are illegally harvested and instead of allowing local carpenters to use the rosewood to make desks for these students to sit and learn, the government has decided to put it into the national cathedral building which will not directly affect these students.

He posited that, by using the confiscated rosewood to make school desks for pupils in deprived communities they would one day become better people in society who will impact their communities positively and would visit the national cathedral with their family as tourists but on the contrary government decision will deny less privilege students the opportunity to have improved education to secure their future.

Dr Apaak said he is not against the construction of a national cathedral which is an individual pledge to God but he believes that building a national cathedral in the midst the challenges the nation face is insensitive.

On the question of whether or not he will contribute towards the building of the national cathedral, Dr Apaak total dismissed the idea.
