UW/R: Police cautions public over sudden rise in road accidents

The Upper West Regional Police Command says it is putting measures in place to tackle the sudden rise in road accidents head-on.

The Commander noted with concern that due to continuous misconduct on the part of road users, motor accidents in the Upper West Region has seen a sharp rise, particularly in the Wa Municipal within the past few days.

“The Upper West Regional Police Command wishes to inform the general public of its intention to clamp down on various misconducts of road users on roads in the wa Municipality.”

These sentiments were contained in a statement signed by the Upper West Regional Public Affairs Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Chief Inspector, Gideon Ohene Boateng.

The statement continued to say that “The Command therefore advise the general public to desist from such misconducts on the road and also wishes to state that, it has to come to the notice of the

Command regarding the rampant accidents occurring in the Municipality and mostly, these accidents are not reported for investigation to prevent or minimize the occurrences of these accidents. Notably of these misconducts includes; parking on the shoulders of the road, driving beyond the speed limit in town, riding or driving without side mirrors and among others”.

The Upper West Regional Police Command was emphatic that recalcitrant road users would be made to face the law.

“The Command wishes to state categorically that, it will clamp down on these misconducts on the roads and those found culpable will be prosecuted at a Court of competent jurisdiction to serve as a deterrent to others,” the statement contained.
