Acting Upper East Regional Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), Jerry Asamani has revealed that some houses in the region have collapsed due rains.

Mr Asamani said some of the houses were already earmarked last year by the organisation and were expected to collapse due to their construction module and materials as well as the state of the structures.

He said the houses that have collapsed so far are the local mud structures with mud roof so when it soaks so much water due to the rains, the roof caves in and the building collapses.

Mr Asamani spoke on Day Break Upper East show on A1 Radio said, the organization is currently undertaking sensitization for communities members that reside along flood prone areas so that they can evacuate to higher grounds in order to avoid loss of lives and property.

Comparing the rainfall in the Upper East Region to the Upper West Region, Mr Asamani said the rains in the the Upper East Region are fewer because the region is yet to experience its’ peek rainfalls but appropriate arrangements have been made to forestall any eventualities.

He said the organization has received a warning note from Burkinabe authorities regarding the spillage of the Bagre Dam and is working towards ensuring that the spillage does not result in loss of human lives.

Mr Asamani has therefore, appealed to farmers and families along flood prone areas to relocate to higher grounds until the expected flood duration is over.
