Former President John Dramani Mahama has stated the decision of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to contest the 2020 presdential election results declaration by the Electoral Commission (EC) at the Supreme Court was meant to cool down tempers of party supporters.

The Former president said by the time the Supreme Court gave their ruling on the petition, cool heads had prevailed which ensured that we have a united and peaceful country.

Former president was speaking in an exclusive interview on state-owned broadcaster, URA – Radio in the Upper East Region and monitored by A1RAdioonline.com as part of his thank you tour in the region said the party strongly believes it won the election regardless of the court ruling.

The Former president bemoaned the loss of lives in the 2020 elections in Techiman South and other areas.

He said when it comes to policing elections, the security strategy has always been to use the police but the 2020 elections saw military men deployed to polling stations and collations centers which led to the death of some citizens.

Touching on the state of the Ghanaian economy, Former president Mahama said the economy was already in crises before COVID-19 arrived so it is false for the Akufo Addo government to entirely blame the state of the economy on covid.

Former president Mahama said he has offered the president his advise about how to revive the economy but he seems the president is not listening.

He said he will not be surprise if the Akufo Addo led government will go the International Monetary Fund (IMF) due their way of managing the economy.
