Pupils of Goriko Primary and Kindergarten at Winkogo in the Talensi District of the Upper East Region are appealing to Government and other organizations to come to their aid as they sit on bare floor to study.
According to the pupils, their schools have been challenged with furniture deficit for more than eight years.
They told A1 Radio in an interview that the situation was affecting them academically as they usually had difficulty concentrating in classroom during teaching and learning.
One of the pupils, Esther said “I am not a happy student because anytime I come to school my uniform usually get dirty. I and my colleagues are sitting on the bare floor to learn and I don’t like it.”
Another pupil said, “Anytime I go home after school, my parents complain of my uniform and how I make it dirty. I want the Government to come and help us; if not some of us will stop schooling.”
“If the government will not come to our aid, I will stop schooling because anytime I come to school, I sit on the floor to learn.” Another pupil, Emmanuel Akolgo reiterated.
But reacting to the situation, Assembly Member for the Winkogo Electoral Area, Edward Akolgo told A1 Radio that he had already reported the issue to the Talensi District Assembly.
“Goriko Basic School adds to make 12 schools in my area that need furniture. Myself, I’m not sleeping over the situation. I have reported it to the Talensi District Assembly and assurances have been given. I believe that things will work accordingly. We all know the importance of education. So, it is always a nightmare for me to see little ones going through challenges of such nature.”
