Information Technology specialist, Albert Naa, has cautioned the public to limit the number of hours they spent on social media to avert possible security exposure to criminals.

According to him modern-day criminals are now smart and usually rely on social media especially Facebook and Twitter to get hold of their victims.

Speaking on A1 Radio regarding the recent increase in reported cases of kidnapping and ritual killing in the country, Mr Naa noted that, “Often than not, most people spend hours posting pictures and other stuff on Facebook and Twitter telling the whole world how they are going about their daily activities forgetting that criminals are also monitoring. We ought to take our security seriously.  Modern-day criminals are now using these social media sites to get hold of their victims.”

Mr Naa is the Executive Director of Norgence Academy, a renowned IT training centre in Bolgatanga that focuses on software development, digital marketing and other relevant courses.

The specialist also appealed to security agencies in Ghana to see technology as a stepping stone to combating crime.

“Today’s era that we found ourselves, I will appeal to the security agencies to make use of technology as one of their tools to combat crime.”
